How Braces Work
To begin your orthodontic treatment, Dr. Mueller will place a metal bracket on each of your teeth. Then, a thin metal archwire is threaded through each of these brackets. Because the archwire naturally wants to maintain its original shape, it will exert a gentle pressure on the teeth, gradually shifting them into a more aligned position. The roots of the teeth underneath the gums will also move to support these changes.
